Hope chests, hoarding, planning for the future, living in the present.

I really love the idea of hope chests. I love the idea of collecting beautiful treasures that you’ll use someday, for your wedding, or your home, etc. When I was a wee-teenager I remember asking my parents for new bedroom linens for Christmas. When they came I didn’t even open them, I saved them for when I had my own bedroom. Sadly we never finished the extra bedroom and I never used the bed linens. Then at some point it had been so long that they weren’t even ‘me’ anymore and that was that… I was never able to really…

Is being organized nature or nurture? Learning to put things away…

{the neat method} What started off as a surprisingly slow fall at work has suddenly become unbelievably busy and of course, every time my life gets busy my house somehow becomes a complete disaster zone. You guys, my laundry chair has become laundry pile of doom, is there even a chair under there?! Who knows, I can’t see it anymore! Who out there is naturally organized? Anyone? Is there anyone who has crazy weeks or is just always busy in general but their house somehow always stays looking put together and pretty? I think those people do exist but sadly,…

Minimalist or Maximalist… style, my struggles with purging, and finding balance

It’s super crazy at work these days and we are making {very} slow progress at home purging and combining our things while trying to keep miss Penny from jumping everywhere post knee surgery {we kind of stink at that}. Life these days is chaotic and messy but I’m {mostly} loving it. At first the purging of stuff was pretty easy, but I’ve hit a point where I’m starting to struggle with getting rid of things. Fear of regretting letting something go, feeling obligated to keep things just for sentimental reasons, or possibly needing it later… the list is long. I’ve…

One big secret to a quick sale: preparation

Price is important when it comes to selling your house. It is definitely one of the most important factors in either attracting, or deterring, interest. But there is something else that is equally important that a lot of people underestimate, and that’s preparation. You only get one chance to make a first impression on a potential buyer, and if your space isn’t looking it’s best, people won’t trust that you’ll address small things that need to be taken care of, and they won’t come back. It’s a little more work up front, but it’s worth it to help get a…

Cohabitation and the merging of the things

You guys! It’s official. I moved in with my man friend {all the way moved in} last week. It’s turning out to be a lot bigger of a deal than I was expecting. I starting working on this post quite a bit before actually living with a significant other, and I have to say, I’m glad I set it aside until my manfriend and I actually moved in together because holy moly ~ the experience has been a lot different than I expected! First can I just say ~ how do we have so much stuff?! I moved from a…

Moving, Do’s & Don’t’s, and a Case Against Junk Drawers

Definitely my least favorite thing to pack up this past weekend was the ‘junk drawer’ in my kitchen. Doesn’t everyone have {at least} one of these in their house? Where all of the random things that don’t really have a home anywhere else go to be forgotten… it seems like a good idea when you have it ~ oh, these 100 things don’t have a home, or I’m not sure if I really want this but it could be useful, so I’ll put it in here. But then come moving time I am faced with what is essentially a drawer…

Be the Rare Find

Things are absolutely crazy right now as I pack and arrange movers, everything is moving so much faster than I was expecting. It’s definitely not the ‘picture’ I had in my head of a peaceful, well organized and graceful move. Once my manfriend and I decided to make it official and move in together, and I finally stopped dragging my feet about re-letting my place, I was a little worried about finding someone in what is typically a pretty slow time of year. But when I finally posted it, I had multiple applicants before the end of the first day,…

What I’m doing with all the stuff I’m getting rid of…

As I’m cleaning out my space I’m experiencing a┬ástrong desire for my things to go directly {or as close to directly as possible} to someone who really needs or wants them. One thing I never liked about just dropping off a huge pile at the Salvation Army is that everything is being re-sold. And I always feel overwhelmed in those spaces, it’s literally everything piled into one big warehouse and you have to go hunting for one specific thing. It just isn’t my favorite. I really want as many of my things to go directly into the hands of their…
