Inspiration images for our new place

You guys, I have so many things I want to talk about and share this year on the blog, but right now, all I can think about is our new place. I mean, is there really anything else worth doing?! It’s taking some serious willpower to not actually buy anything before we move in. . .   But, there is a lot of planning and coordinating to be done, and before I go pulling the trigger actually buying all the beautiful things, I want to be sure I have a clear vision of what I’m creating in our new space….

Sofa Dreams

Since we’re doing this sublet through the end of the year that means no big designing and no big furniture purchases for about nine more months, until we find our permanent place. But that hasn’t stopped me from becoming really pre-occupied with what sofa I want in our next living room. I haven’t even really started imagining too specifically what our next space will look like design-wise overall, because we want to be open to different types of spaces and buildings that could work as far as fixer-uppers. I think once we get moved into our immediate next space I’ll…

A soda pop factory gets a stunning makeover

I love Architecture, and I’m obsessed with renovations and bringing an outdated or neglected space back to life. Recently I came across an absolutely jaw dropping space that just sold that I’m excited to share today. I’m so sad I didn’t make it over to see the space before it sold {in a whiplash inducing three days at just over $1 million}, maybe I can make friends with the new owners and get an invite over for dinner, ha! Too often people think that updates have to be very neutral and safe so that their space is appealing to the…

Color is the New Neutral

I’m noticing a disturbing trend lately… I think it’s been going on for a while now and I just haven’t noticed, but an alarming number of homes are filled with absolutely horrible poo colored brown couches. Please. Stop this behavior immediately. Be better than a poo brown couch. I’m not really sure how anyone can look at that and think that it’s a good choice, forget trying to figure out why a furniture company would even offer it as an option. Ugh. Maybe poo brown is supposed to be neutral? Maybe not. The great news is that these days, in design…

Small Changes, Big Transformation

I love seeing the transformation of a space pre and post-renovation. And of course it’s always super fun to see a space that needs a major space lift and be able to go in and change everything. But you don’t always need to rip everything out and start over from scratch in order to have a big transformation within a space. Sometimes just some small adjustments  can make a huge difference, and lucky for you I just worked on this exact type of space! Here we started with an underwhelming condo, with a layout and size that worked, but bad real-estate beige…

My favorite gold accents & accessories to brighten up your space

There are so many super fun and great looking gold accents and accessories right now, even if you don’t have gold hardware in your kitchen, you can still totally get in on ~ what I think is ~ the best trend in a long time. Here are some of my favorite gold accessories/accents that you can easily integrate into your space. Instant upgrade and refresh. Installing a new light fixture is actually pretty easy and will totally transform a room. These two from West Elm are really beautiful, totally affordable and you can use them in lots of different spaces…

Uptown Renovation Wrap-up – Living Room Options

Eugenia’s renovation was a little bit of a two step project. There were the big projects that needed to be completed before the move in – refinishing the cabinets, painting the space and installing the new lights and ceiling fan, and then there was planning for the rest of the space in a way that Eugenia and her husband could implement over time at their own pace. There were several pieces that were coming along with the move, the sofa and the dining table and chairs {and one train table not shown that is a cute, but temporary, toy/play space…

Uptown Kitchen – Final Photos!

Here they are, final pics of Eugenia and her family’s kitchen renovation! It’s hard to even remember the before space, much less imagine that it’s all the same cabinets under that glossy new paint. This is definitely one of my favorite projects for a huge transformation of a space while working with a lot of the existing conditions. It’s easy to make a huge change when you can tear everything out, move walls and really start over, but you can also completely transform a space with a few strategic moves and a great team. I feel so lucky to have…

Kitchen Renovation – Getting Started and Making Decisions…

Oh my goodness, how time flies. When did it turn October?! (yes, I know it was eight days ago) Needless to say, I am way overdue to share more info about Eugenia’s renovation. When we first started talking about her style and possible approaches to the space, Eugenia and I kept talking about keeping things light and bright. The more I thought about what to propose, I just kept feeling like it would be so fun to do the base cabinets a darker color and have the counter and top cabinets white. I don’t know why I kept thinking that,…

Living Room Evolution

I saw this fun article in Apartment Therapy the other day about whether you are a ‘fast’ or ‘slow’ designer. I was trying to think of what category I fit into and realized that this, like everything, is a spectrum… and there are projects that I am one way with and others that I am the other… also there are certain aspects within a project where I might lean one way or the other. Coming up with the overall vision or feel of a space is easy for me, 99% of the time. But sometimes finding that perfect piece can take a little…
