You guys, I have so many things I want to talk about and share this year on the blog, but right now, all I can think about is our new place. I mean, is there really anything else worth doing?! It’s taking some serious willpower to not actually buy anything before we move in. . . But, there is a lot of planning and coordinating to be done, and before I go pulling the trigger actually buying all the beautiful things, I want to be sure I have a clear vision of what I’m creating in our new space….

Hope chests, hoarding, planning for the future, living in the present.
I really love the idea of hope chests. I love the idea of collecting beautiful treasures that you’ll use someday, for your wedding, or your home, etc. When I was a wee-teenager I remember asking my parents for new bedroom linens for Christmas. When they came I didn’t even open them, I saved them for when I had my own bedroom. Sadly we never finished the extra bedroom and I never used the bed linens. Then at some point it had been so long that they weren’t even ‘me’ anymore and that was that… I was never able to really…
What’s your rug style?
Today it’s all about rugs, and I’m sharing a few of my favorite styles with you {in case the title of the post hadn’t given it away}! I love a great area rug. Nine times out of ten I’d rather have hardwood floors and a great rug than anything else. It’s rare that I’ll get on board with wall to wall carpet {somehow it’s never great carpet and I feel like it’s hard to maintain and keep looking great. Unless I am installing it brand new for myself in my own house, I cringe and take a pass, lol}. Just…
Caning and rattan, not just for dining room chairs and patios anymore…
You guys, can we talk about something that I’m completely googley eyed in love with?! Caned furniture and rattan! Seriously. Is that weird??! I almost split this up into two separate posts because technically they aren’t the same, but really they are kind of related, I think of them like cousins in the furniture world, so I’m talking about both, just get excited about it. ;) Caned and rattan furniture have been around literally forever, and they will both be in style forever too. I think technically rattan is wicker, but it can look very different depending on how it’s designed/constructed….
Let’s talk baby nurseries!
First let me clarify ~ no, I’m not pregnant. And while I will probably not ever have a need to design a nursery for myself, it just happens to be a space that I’ve always wanted to design! One of my teammates is preggo and so I thought, what better time than now to do a post all about baby nurseries, so that I can indulge this long held dream and share some of my favorite inspirations and pics for these spaces?! I thought about showing just one ‘most favorite’ design approach and ‘style’ for this blog post, but honestly,…
Finding your style, so that you can bring it to life.
Before we moved I did a serious closet purge and got rid of most of my clothes. {honestly, I could still get rid of more} I would literally stand in front of the closet every morning and, feeling defeated and uninspired, I would literally say out loud with a sigh ~ I don’t know what to wear. Every day. Did I love anything in my closet? Do I even have a style? Probably not. It’s so easy in our closets and our houses to just amass a random collection of things over time that we often unintentionally end up living in…
Kitchen renovations on a budget: painted cabinets, why that counter probably needs to go and what you need to know for a successful {and good looking} budget refresh
Painting kitchen cabinets has become the go-to quick {and cheap} fix for a dated kitchen. No matter what your kitchen looks like, just paint those cabinets white and ~ voila! ~ you can say the space is updated, and won’t everyone just be racing over? Maybe… not. Here are two kitchen renovations. Both painted existing cabinets, one stopped there, and the other made some additional updates. Personally I think the space on the right looks far better than the one on the left {and so should everyone else who isn’t blind}. The short cheap squatty ‘backsplash’, the stark contrast between…
Bathroom Inspiration ~ the patterned floor tile trend
One new bathroom trend I am really loving right now is patterned floor tile. The new super cool look is Spanish influenced tiles that are fairly ornate. And while I do think this is one element that can be done very well and look timeless in it’s own way for a long time, it can also easily be overly trendy and look bad after jut a few years, depending on what you select. I feel like it can be hard to put in words what makes a good patterned tile and what is ‘bad’ or too trendy, that will look…
The 411 on New Construction
Of all of the dream houses I might have, the one type of property that’s never really on my wish list is new construction. It’s not because there’s anything wrong with new construction, it can be a great option, I’m just the type of person who will always want to be doing the updating myself. I’m pretty particular for one, and I just love the design process, and to be the one transforming a space. It’s a thrill and complete joy for me. But what’s the 411 on new construction? What are the pro’s, what are the cons, and what…
At the end of the day, it’s not ‘ours’… and what that feels like
I’m talking about our apartment. Lately we’ve been in a wee bit of a rut my manfriend and I… one of us, I won’t say who {totally him} is a bit way more messy than the other, and it’s caused some friction, to say the least. While we might only be in this space for a shorter time, I still want to make it nice and have it feel as much like ‘home’ as we can. My manfriend is more of the mindset that it’s just a temporary space so what does it matter if it’s messy? And as we’ve trudged…
